Fairmont’s Parks and Recreation Department has announced a trail expansion project that will add 1.2 miles of paved multi-use trail connecting the existing Sisseton-Wahpeton Trail to Cedar Lake Park.

Project Details

The $680,000 project is funded through a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Outdoor Recreation Grant, with the City contributing a 25% local match.

Construction is expected to begin in September 2025, with completion planned before freeze-up in November.

Community Input

The expansion responds to community survey feedback requesting improved trail connectivity between Fairmont’s southern lakes and the downtown trail network. Over 340 residents participated in the planning survey.
