The governing body of the City of Fairmont, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members elected at-large. The Council sets policy, approves the budget, and oversees City operations.

Reviews applications for variances, conditional use permits, plat approvals, and zoning amendments. Makes recommendations to the City Council on land use matters.

Hears appeals of zoning decisions and requests for variances from zoning ordinance requirements. Authority to grant variances where strict application of the ordinance would cause undue hardship.

Oversees the Fairmont Public Utilities — a municipal utility serving 11,000 customers. The Commission sets policy and direction for electric, water, wastewater, and related services.

Advises the City Council on matters related to parks, trails, recreation facilities, and programming. Reviews park development plans and makes recommendations on park policy.

Promotes aviation development and advises the Council on airport operations, safety, and development. Works to attract and develop aviation-related business at the Fairmont Municipal Airport.

Reviews and recommends amendments to the Fairmont City Charter. The Charter is the City's foundational governing document.

Facilitates economic development, supports business growth, and manages the City's interest in available commercial and industrial properties. Works to attract new employers and retain existing businesses.

Advises the City Council on the operation, programming, and development of the Fairmont Community Center.

Has absolute control and supervision over the employment, promotion, discharge, and suspension of all officers and employees of the police department.

Oversees programs and policies related to the management and health of Fairmont's lake system, including water quality monitoring and invasive species management.

Reviews workplace safety programs and recommends safety policies for City employees and operations.
